Our team gets the importance of produce from both sides of the plate. General Manager Stephen Kahl a past farmer along with produce specialist Ryan, Jomel and Jason at getFresh, understand the unique needs of its clients and dynamics of produce supply.
On the 7th of September 2015, getFresh Merchants met the requirements to attain HACCP approval and were registered as a Silliker HACCP-approved supplier. We, getFresh Merchants strive to supply fresh fruit and vegetables that meet our customers’ requirements and expectations packed to comply with customer agreed standards and specifications.
Our philosophy is that quality and food safety must be incorporated from the start of the growing season and can not be added at the end of the production and distribution process or at the final inspection. We believe that all participants in the distribution system have responsibilities to the product and indeed, the customer.
In order to facilitate this, we have established a Codex HACCP system for our part of the Fruit & Vegetable supply chain, that is efficient, will be maintained and continuously improved. To ensure this occurs, we make available appropriate resources to ensure the successful operation and management of our Quality and Food Safety Management Systems.
We intend to only market Fruit & Vegetables that meet agreed customer specifications and standards and we believe by doing so we will retain our competitive edge in the market.
Fresh foods continue to metabolize and consume their nutrients throughout their shelf life, from harvest through to packing, distribution and sale. Carbohydrate proteins and other nutrients are broken down into similar compounds, often resulting in reduced quality or quantity of the foods, through respiration, enzymatic break down and microbial degradation. All of these processes are highly dependent upon temperature. Cooling provides the following benefits for perishable horticultural foods.
- Reduces respiration: lessen perishability
- Reduces transpiration: lessens water loss, less shriveling
- Reduces ethylene production: slows ripening
- Increases resistance to ethylene action
- Decreases activity of micro-organisms
- Reduces browning and loss of texture, flavour and nutrients
- Delays in ripening and natural senescence
getFresh Merchants aims to preserve an uninterrupted cold chain through appropriate storage and distribution activities that maintain a given temperature, in which is imperative for extending the shelf life of Fruit & Vegetables. The processes outlined in our Quality and Food Safety Management systems are stringently monitored, audited and updated to achieve the ideal system for maintaining and handling premium fresh produce.
